Then Danny Boyle’s Ink, the story of a young Rupert Murdoch building The Sun out of Fleet Street’s ruins, took the opening slot and walked out with five-star notices and the first ovation of the season. Twenty-one films compete through September 12 under Maggie Gyllenhaal’s jury. The Lido in September is where the year’s most important rooms are, and this week every one of them was full. |

Bulgari handed its Octo Finissimo case to Vianney Halter — the independent watchmaker whose Antiqua once looked like it was built for a submarine captain from another century — and let him rearrange the dial into a constellation of studded portholes: hours, minutes, GMT, seconds, date, day and night, each with its own window. The case is 40.5mm and 9.7mm thin, driven by a new micro-rotor movement with a 60-hour reserve. Thirty in sandblasted titanium at roughly $80,000; fifteen in rose gold at $123,000. It is the rarest kind of object — a collaboration where neither party blinked. |

Amanvari is eighteen standalone casitas — each 82 square meters with a heated private pool and a terrace facing the Sea of Cortez — plus a spa built around the temazcal ceremony and a ten-seat omakase counter called Sesui. Rates open at $4,056 a night, which is the price of not being found. September is when the water is warmest and the guest list is shortest. The Look~  Thom Browne Goes Home to Scotland: Tweed, Tartan, and the Case for Dressing Like the Weather Matters.For Fall 2026, Thom Browne took his cameras to the hills of Birnam, Scotland, cast the locals alongside the models, and let the landscape do the styling. The collection is Fair Isle cashmere, cable knits, down-filled outerwear cut from chalk-stripe flannel and windowpane tweed, and ski details hidden inside tailoring — thumbholes, rib-knit gaiters, the things a man notices only when the wind picks up. The centerpiece is Browne’s own registered grey-and-navy tartan, woven with Lochcarron. It is getting cold. Dress like you expected it. |

The Bank~  Nvidia Buys the Library: A $13 Billion Bet That the Future of AI Is Open.This week Nvidia confirmed it will acquire Hugging Face — the open-weight platform that hosts more than three million AI models and serves eighteen million developers — for $12.93 billion, closing in the first half of 2027 pending regulators. Jensen Huang framed it as principle: “Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.” Wall Street framed it as a pivot from selling the shovels to owning the mine, and the stock rose. Meanwhile, Bitcoin ripped past $80,000 on a Fed pause signal, liquidating $415 million in shorts in a single day. The smart money is not waiting for October. |
